I met Anna and Jeff on Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings' grounds in Cross Creek for their engagement session. I knew immediately they were perfection. We went through some parkour (I will spare you the details, but know I’m willing to jump a fence for my clients) and ended up with incredible shots.
Their engagement session was in early August, and the potent heat was nothing compared to the cold winter day for their wedding. Throughout the day, my hand went numb around my camera; it was so dang cold. It was also so, so worth it. I bulked up in a red sweatshirt (note to self, always bring a black hoodie to a winter wedding)!
Aside from the blistering cold, the day was beautiful at Cross Creek Farmhouse in Cross Creek, Alachua County, Florida. Anna’s getting-ready room was narrow and held two vanities. We hid out there until it was showtime. I remember at one point we were passing Anna’s hairdryer around to warm our hands. It was a time to be had.
During the ceremony, when Anna walked down the aisle, it was the most memorable walk I’ve witnessed as a wedding photographer. I froze (no pun intended) when Nutshell mashed up with Broken Window Serenade blessed my ears. It never occurred to me that someone’s walkdown song could be Alice in Chains. I was impressed, floored, and in love with this gorgeous bride walking towards her incredible groom. Now, when I see photos from this day, all I hear is the opening chords of Nutshell.
While it was the coldest day of the season, I wouldn’t change a thing. I love being able to capture people’s special days. Through rain, shine, cold, hot, or for all I care, hail, the show must go on!
